Let’s cut right to the chase. If you have never really had experience posing, it’s going to feel awkward. Plain and simple.

You’ll feel silly, weird, maybe even self conscious and hyper aware of the fact that you don’t know what to do with your hands…

All of this is normal! Absolutely normal, so don’t let that scare you away. Just ask Ricky Bobby.

Maybe you’re a social media selfie master and you can work those facial angles like a pro. This will definitely help you! But we still have to deal with our bodies… What the hell do you do with your body?

In this guide we hope to demystify posing, and help you gain confidence in your facial and bodily posing.

By the time you’re in front of that camera, you’ll be ready and not feeling so awkward! Posing is all about angles, that’s basically the big secret. Learn your ‘good’ (aka most flattering) angles, and work the hell out of them!

Now, a good photographer knows angles and posing tricks, so they will help guide you. But this doesn’t mean you can’t crush it even harder with your own style and flare if you practice! Plus, you’ll just look more natural and feel more confident.

Tip #1: Do Posing Research and Practice.

It may sound cheesy, but look up poses you like and practice them. This helps you not only build confidence in front of the camera, but helps you get familiar with the angels on your body and face.

[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” flex_grow=”0″ alignment=”center” border_size=”” sep_color=”” icon=”” icon_size=”” icon_color=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal,sticky” class=”” id=”” top_margin=”30″ /][fusion_text columns=”” column_min_width=”” column_spacing=”” rule_style=”default” rule_size=”” rule_color=”” content_alignment_medium=”” content_alignment_small=”” content_alignment=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal,sticky” class=”” id=”” font_size=”” fusion_font_family_text_font=”” fusion_font_variant_text_font=”” line_height=”” letter_spacing=”” text_color=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]

Tip #2: Pay attention to the angles of the body, and ask yourself these questions:

These are all subtle (and not so subtle) movements you can make with your body to create more flattering angles.

Practice these movements in front of the mirror and have a friend take photos of you. You’ll quickly see the difference a little bit of an angle can make. If you find there is a side of your face you prefer, tell your photographer! Utilize the parts of your body that make you feel the most confident.

Tip #3: Use your clothing to your advantage.

[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” flex_grow=”0″ alignment=”center” border_size=”” sep_color=”” icon=”” icon_size=”” icon_color=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal,sticky” class=”” id=”” top_margin=”30″ /][fusion_text columns=”” column_min_width=”” column_spacing=”” rule_style=”default” rule_size=”” rule_color=”” font_size=”” line_height=”” letter_spacing=”” text_color=”” content_alignment_medium=”” content_alignment_small=”” content_alignment=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal,sticky” class=”” id=””]

Tip #4: Practice that beautiful smile of yours! :D

Some people have amazing natural smiles, they love to smile and look wonderful doing it, And then there’s people like me; I don’t love my smile and it’s not very photogenic. My nose scrunches, my cheeks bulge out, my eyes barely look open.. It doesn’t make for a great picture. Or at least that’s my take on it.

I’ve had to learn how to smile for the camera. It felt crazy awkward at first, but now it’s just second nature when I’m in pose mode.

Here’s how you do it:

[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type=”none” flex_grow=”0″ alignment=”center” border_size=”” sep_color=”” icon=”” icon_size=”” icon_color=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal,sticky” class=”” id=”” top_margin=”30″ /][fusion_text columns=”” column_min_width=”” column_spacing=”” rule_style=”default” rule_size=”” rule_color=”” font_size=”” line_height=”” letter_spacing=”” text_color=”” content_alignment_medium=”” content_alignment_small=”” content_alignment=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” sticky_display=”normal,sticky” class=”” id=””]

Tip #5: Always be mindful of where the photographer’s lens is.

Is it above your eye line? Is it below? Is it head on? All of these lens positions will change how you should hold your head.

Posing Conclusion

Posing is just like anything else, the more prepared you are for it, the less you’ll actually have to think about it. You’ll be able to relax, confidently take direction from your photographer, and just enjoy being in the experience!
